An Interesting Day of Sharing My Creativity
I had an excellent time on Wednesday (Aug. 22). I introduced beads to people who wouldn’t normally have an interest in beads. We had a Fun Day at work and my contribution was to bring in my beads to share.
I wanted something simple that could be of use at work. I came up with the idea of charms for coffee mugs. I started out calling them mug rings, but during the day my boss suggested calling them Mug Charms. This described what we were doing so well, that people immediately sat down with no more instructions, to pick out their beads.
I put out small wire rings, in a choice of gold tone or silver tone, that are usually used to mark stemware at a party. I supplied a lot of inexpensive beads that could be strung on the rings. I made a few suggestions that helped avoid disappointment and bent the end of the wire when they finished so that the charm would be secure on the handle of their mug. I also made up some samples as giveaways to people who didn’t want to make their own. For most people, however the experience of making something was the biggest part of the activity.
I work in a bank call center so these were not your typical crafty people who seek out creative crafts. They really appreciated that I was sharing something that I love to do and they will have something to remind them of a little fun in a day that only comes a long once a year.
A comment that quite a few people made during the day was that it was very relaxing…. Not bad for beading newbies. BC
